Catholic Schools: Dividends for Life

Catholic Schools Week: January 31 – February 6

The logo designed for the week features a cross superimposed on an outstretched hand. Rays coming from behind the hand express the concepts of faith, knowledge, morals and discipline—all beneficial aspects of a Catholic education. Marie Powell, executive director of the Secretariat of Catholic Education of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, noted: “We realize that in most parts of the country a Catholic education is not without some cost. But I can't think of a better investment in the future than to invest in the education of a child.”

An essay contest will be held prior to Catholic Schools Week for grades PreK-3 (no more than 50 words) and grades 4-8 (no more than 100 words). The theme for the contest is: “How has St. Mary Catholic School paid dividends in my life?” All entries will receive a prize and winning entries will be published. The deadline for the entries is Thursday, January 28.

Saturday, January 30 and Sunday, January 31: The Good News in Education: In Our Parish

A St. Mary Catholic School family will attend each of the Masses at the three parishes of Harvey County this weekend. Call the office if your family would be able to help by reading a prepared script at one of the Masses. Please show your support for Catholic education by wearing your uniform to Mass this weekend.

All friends and family members are encouraged to log onto the school website at www.stmarynewton.org and vote on their favorite banner with the theme, “Catholic Schools: Dividends for Life”.
